African-American City Council Contender Simba Kenyatta on FRSC
Simba Kenyatta, black City Council candidate, will co-host Bathrobespierre's Broadsides on Free Radio Santa Cruz Thursday Evening 6-8 PM.

Simba Kenyatta was part of the Coalition that helped establish the weak but struggling Citizens Police Review Board in the mid-90s. He ran an earlier City Council campaign in 1996.
Kenyatta has at times been an outspoken voice. In a recent Good Times article, he was the only Council candidate to raise questions about the anti-homeless Downtown Ordinances, which severely limit street performers, panhandlers, and street folks of all shades, shapes, colors, and ages.
Kenyatta has tenatively agreed to be on the show. If he fails to show, he may face the Wrath of Norse.

Kenyatta’s concern over the downtown ordinances is part of what he views as one of the city’s biggest problems, “the usual undeclared, internecine class war that takes place downtown all too often.” To that end, he supports the minimum wage increase, as well as the increase in the sales tax to forestall further budget deficits and improve public services. “I feel that my extensive training in conflict resolution and coalition building, along with my experience with youth and gangs, combine to make my assets perfect for the times,” he says, before adding “I also would like to see African-American people at long last represented in Santa Cruz politics.”

Simba called this afternoon as said he couldn't make it tomorrow because of obligations Friday. He said he might be on tap for next Thursday.
